22 October 2026: API v2 and the move from Claude Design to Artifacts

API v2 is live under /api/v2 and covers every v1 route. The token export moves to /api/v2/systems/{name}/export with the same 15 formats.
Claude Design (claude.ai/design) closes on 14 December 2026. Design work moves into Claude Artifacts: one Design System artifact per app, and one Design canvas per redesign round with one artboard per surface, built by Claude Code in your app's repo.
The v2 prompt pack takes agent=claude (the Design canvas, default) or agent=other (local HTML drafts in design/drafts/<round>/ for Cursor, Codex and other agents). claude-design-kit is renamed design-system-kit.
v1 keeps answering until 14 December 2026 with Deprecation, Sunset and successor-version headers. From 15 December 2026 every v1 route answers 410 API_V1_RETIRED.
Design handoff keys stop working on 15 December 2026, earlier than the 31 January 2027 announced before. v2 accepts only workspace API keys.
Nine MCP tools have new names, for example get_design_handoff is now get_design_context. The older names stop answering on 15 December 2026.
Webhook payloads, API key permissions and response bodies stay the same, apart from URLs that now point at v2.
